Awesome Gifts for Writers: Postertext 2014 Calender!

If there’s one thing I love to receive at Christmas, it’s a calendar. I usually get one from my Aunt Kristi every year. Sometimes it’s homemade, because she’s crafty like that. Last year, it was a Harry Potter calendar.

The other day when I was browsing in Barnes and Noble for a few gifts, I found myself wondering  why there weren’t more calendars out there for writers. In the ten minutes I spent in the calendar section, there were a ton of different types: men with animals (hubba hubba), vintage soup labels, pin-up girls, horses, lighthouses, etc. But where were the calendars for writers?

And then I found out about Postertext. They design art prints for book lovers, and they’ve put together a fantastic looking calendar for 2014. MADE ENTIRELY FROM WORDS! What? That’s right. It’s every graphic designer’s wet dream and every writer’s wish! I think it’s a perfect gift for any book enthusiast. It contains short stories from some of my favorite authors like F. Scott Fitzgerald, Mark Twain, William Shakespeare, and H.P. Lovecraft.

Here are a few pics from what I found:

I’ve heard of Postertext, but just in case you haven’t and want a little more info…

About Postertext

Postertext designs art prints for book lovers made entirely out of text!

We are a small team of bibliophiles who love art and literature. We are one of the pioneers of these “wall of text” designs, where we use words from a book to form an illustration. No lines. No edges. Just words.

Postertext breathes new life into some of the most important literary works ever written by using the writer’s own words. We take pride in our ability to produce the highest quality work that captures the heart and spirit of the author’s original vision. To accomplish this, we read every single book to completion before even attempting to brainstorm possible designs.

The result is stunningly elegant.

Since we first opened shop in 2010, we’ve been mentioned on big-name places like WIRED, Dwell, New Yorker, Notcot, Harvard Press and many others.

This 2014 Literary Poster Calendar is created using short stories from 12 prolific authors.

Created from the original words of some of the most beloved short stories, this compilation of art brings alive a unique and thrilling design with the flip of each page. The tales of great authors such as H.P. Lovecraft, Mark Twain, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle all take their places on their own pages, co-existing in a harmonious balance of beautiful literary lines and sumptuous illustrations. With perforated edges on each calendar page, you can remove each month’s design and frame them on the wall as separate pieces of a collection. These illustrations are timeless and can continue to be enjoyed no matter the month or year.

With the varied and prodigious words of great authors, this 2014 Literary Poster Calendar evokes the spirit of each individual tale with twelve magnificent illustrations that will make every month of next year memorable.
